UNRWA received record $500 million in '04
UN News Centre - The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) received more than $502 million in 2004 - the most [in one year] in its 55-year history, it announced Thursday. The largest donors included the European Commission ($130.4m), the U.S. ($127.4m), and European countries such as the UK ($39m), Sweden ($31.7m), Norway ($19.6m), and The Netherlands ($18m).
Last year’s donations, although a record, were not as much as UNRWA had sought to provide for all the needs of the refugees, who are suffering from the conflict in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Concurrently, there is a lack of funding for UN programs in West Africa.
