Catching up on the news from Israel is a grisly business, and I would give anything not to be doing it. But you will not find the murder of Yossi Shok in your local paper, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, or for that matter, any American newspaper (go ahead, prove me wrong).
I post this news here on BtB because I want you to know this man's beautiful face. I want you to remember his name. We cannot ignore that he was shot in the head for driving down the road, murdered for being a Jew in the land of Israel. They're killing us, not for anything we do, but for who we are.
Jewish Father of Five Murdered in Hevron Hills Shooting Attack
The attack took place 20 miles south of Jerusalem, between Beit Haggai and Har Manoah - a region slated to be left on the Arab side of the Partition Fence. The terrorists opened fire from a vehicle driving in the opposite direction. The critically-injured 35-year-old male victim, a resident of Beit Haggai and father of five, was transported to Hadassa Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem, where he was pronounced dead.
Yossi Shok was buried today in Hevron.
Shok is survived by his wife Sagit, their five children aged between one month and nine years, and three brothers - including Arutz-7 Hebrew news editor Yigal Shok. OverMay the Gd of Israel comfort and strengthen Yossi's children, his wife, his family and friends.5001,500 people took part in the funeral, which set off from Beit Haggai and ended in the Jewish cemetery in Hevron. His 9-year-old son Yonatan spoke of his father's "warm hug and many acts of hessed (kindness)."
According to the Jerusalem Post, "The Islamic Jihad and the Fatah-affiliated Aksa Martyrs' Brigades took credit for the murder."
UPDATE: I stand corrected. A reader tells me that the LA Times had an article in its Friday morning paper, 12/17, entitled, "Gunmen Kill Jewish Settler in West Bank." Registration is required for online access, but you can also read it (and much more) through the United Jerusalem Foundation website, which I highly recommend.
JERUSALEM — A Jewish settler was shot to death Friday by Palestinian militants in the southern West Bank, the latest spasm in nearly two weeks of scattered, back-and-forth violence.
