While Pres. Bush and PM Olmert seek political survival (or resurrection?) in supporting Abu Mazen and his Fatah terrorists, some in the Arab world are doing what I wish the West and Israel would do: hold the Palestinians responsible for the chaos, anarchy and bloodshed they have wrought. Hullo?
The words via Atlas with illustration by yours truly.
Commentator for the Saudi daily Asharq Al Awsat, Mamoun Fandy:
“We need to tell them the only thing they have proven over 50 years is that they are adolescents who cannot and should not be trusted to run institutions of state or any other important matters.”
Ahmad Al Bughdadi in Al Siyassah, an influential Kuwaiti daily:
“Palestinians are neither a modernized nor a civilized people ...They are not statesmen. If what happened in Gaza is what they do without a state, what then shall they do when they get one?”
(Palestinian) Abdelbari Atwan in the London-based Al Quds International:
“Many, myself among them, find it difficult to speak of Israeli crimes against our people in view of what we have now done ...I never thought the day would come when we would see Palestinians throwing other Palestinians from the tops of buildings to their death, Palestinians attacking other Palestinians to tear their bodies with knives, Palestinians stripping others naked to drag them through the streets.”
Where were these commentators when the Palestinians were torching synagogues in Gaza? When the day comes that Arab editorials condemn such things, then there will be hope for peace. For now, I never think I'll see the day ...
