I am fairly overcome by current events, and so in a diminished state I was casting around to see what other bloggers are finding important. I checked in at Michelle Malkin, curious to know if she was covering the New Jersey airman story, but I didn't get far enough to find out before I saw a photo of a head of iceberg lettuce (the symbolism of which I don't grasp), followed by this intrigue: "Keeping tabs on the head of the Department of Homeland Insecurity. He's off to Dearbornistan for a private meeting with a shady imam."
I've always kind of liked Chertoff, his being the son of a rabbi and all, and I was disconcerted to see that Michelle obviously doesn't. But you have to read Debbie Schlussel to understand. Schlussel thinks Chertoff is a snake. Reason? (Schlussel, being a conservative, actually does have a reason - it's so refreshing after the Times). Turns out Chertoff is meeting with Imam Husham Al-Husainy, who (1) is believed to be supporting terrorists (like Moqtada al Sadr) and (2) is an agent of the Ahmadinejad government in Iran and (3) delivered the "controversial" invocation at the DNC's winter meeting (see video at Hot Air). So, yeah, he's shady alright. I would even go so far as to say that's a misunderestimation.
It doesn't make me happy that bloggers I respect think Chertoff is a snake for meeting with this imam. What does anybody know about the whys and wherefores? Maybe he's delivering a threat from Dubya, to be relayed to Ahmadinejad.
Well, we can hope, can't we?
There's more on Al-Husainy at Jihad Watch and (or) a cheer-me-up at Mere Rhetoric.
Oh, and did you hear that the mastermind of the Alan Johnston kidnapping was an al Qaeda guy? The bad news is endless.
Everything might look just as bad - or worse - in the morning, but at least we won't be tired. See you then. Lila tov.
