Mannie Sherberg
Mrs. Lieberman -- I am one of the many people who read your excellent article in American Thinker, and I am one of those who (using a screen name) wrote a comment attempting to disabuse Mr. Leeson of the misshegos that Kishinev was not as violent -- could not possibly have been as violent -- as the history books maintain. I am certain my attempt failed. Many Americans, I fear, having grown up in a society where acts like those perpetrated at Kishinev seem "unthinkable," literally have difficulty thinking about the truth when they see it. For some folks, apparently, their American optimism is incorrigible, and impervious to contrary evidence. I am writing to recommend to your readers a recent book that produces further evidence -- massive evidence -- of man's inhumanity to man -- or, more to the point, Jew-haters' inhumanity to Jews. The book is "Hebron Jews: Memory and Conflict in the Land of Israel" by Jerold Auerbach. Auerbach's recounting of the 1929 pogrom is as sobering as anything I have read in a very long time -- and a reminder, to all those who may be in doubt, that Arab hatred of the Jews is every bit as vicious, as depraved, and as bestial as that of the Kishinev pogromists. Thank you for writing "Two Jews." It is always nice to see an article suffused with ahavas yisrael on AT (or any other site). A belated "shana tova!"
