The year started out hopeful enough . . .
. . . but it's ending on a very low, very sour note.
... Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not just reject President Obama's latest feckless floating nuclear deadline. He spat on it, declaring that Iran "will continue resisting" until the United States has gotten rid of its 8,000 nuclear warheads.
So ends 2009, the year of "engagement," of the extended hand...
.... Ahmadinejad rejected Obama's speech in which he said "if countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fists, they will find an extended hand from us."
"Which hand did he extend? His right hand or left hand?" Ahmadinejad asked....
