Obama sinking with TypicalWhite folks

National Journal has a report on the latest Pew Research Center national poll which is said to underscore "how slender a beachhead Pres. Obama has established among whites more than two years into his presidency."

In the new Pew survey,Obama's overall approval rating among all whites is 38 percent.

• 56 pct among white "well educated" women
• 41 pct among whites under 30
• 40 pct among among whites aged 30-49 
• 38 pct of white college-educated men 
• 38 pct among white seniors
• 35 pct among white men without a college education
• 35 pct among whites aged 50-64
• 34 pct among "so-called waitress moms" - white women without college educations

 

This comment from 'Theodosius West 'offers two possibilities --

Option A, in a moment of temporary insanity, whites dropped their racism in 2008 and voted for Obama, only to have rediscovered it now.

Or, Option B, two years of bumbling incompetence by a leftwing president who is out of his depth has allowed the scales to fall from the eyes of those whites who were duped last time around but won't be fooled again.

I heard that Obama's support in the black community has fallen from 99.999 to 85 pct, but I've heard nothing about the Jewish voters. We have yet to see if they are smart... or "college educated."  Only time will tell, and I'm not sure how much time we have left.

Sad to say, "college educated" and "educated" are not synonymous -- and that's not just my anecdotal, impressionistic, old-fogey opinion. A stunning new book by a couple of sociologists -- one from NYU and one from the U. of Virginia -- makes the case that a depressingly large number of college students these days learn almost nothing about the basics, including complex reasoning, critical thinking, and writing. The book --- titled "Academically Adrift" and published by the U. of Chicago Press -- marshals a vast amount of data to conclude that many graduates are just as benighted, uninformed, and ignorant after four years in college as they were before. Obama swept the youth vote in 2008. Could there be a connection? Ya think?
