I am sure that Obama did not realize that he was scheduling his pep talk at the same time as the next Republican debate. That said, I plan on watching the NFL kickoff on Thursday, if the debate is rescheduled in deference to The One.

OK, I am old, and retired guys don't always pay attention to calendars. Obama wants to preempt the Republican debate on Wednesday night. He would not dare to challenge the NFL opening game on Thursday night. But if the Republicans reschedule their debate to Thursday, football fans will be upset that they must choose between football and politics. And the press guy says that politics has nothing to do with it. SUUUURE. NFL or Debate. Debate or NFL. Oh, what a Hobson's choice.

How long will it be, I wonder, before lots and lots of voters -- especially Independents -- begin asking why Obama has the time and the smarts to play these political games but hasn't the time or smarts to figure a way to produce new jobs. Granted, everyone who reaches the Oval Office is a political animal, but isn't the president supposed to be more than JUST a political animal? Or is that an impudent question to ask of His Mightiness?
