Wouldn't it be nice if we could write off Harrington's poetry as the work of a curmudgeonly cynic? Unhappily, it is nothing of the sort. It is simply one of the truest rhymed couplets in all of English literature. We'll know that America has truly recovered from its current debility when histories are written about the treachery in our time that no one -- or very few -- dared call "treason."
