Having spent way too much time yesterday reading "Obama Dog Recipes" that I KNOW would not amuse Esther Sarah, I won't bother here to go into the specifics of the deliciously hilarious word-play that conservatives poured onto the smouldering ashes of left-wing tripe about the Romneys' treatment of Man's Best Friend. What is worth mentioning is the fact that Republicans absolutely Rule on twitter, and to such an extent that even the eunuchs of the palace media were "forced to grudgingly report that ... President Obama ate a dog." This is being touted as evidence of "The Power of New Media."
While I would caution that we shouldn't get too carried away with ourselves, it is true that we now have a way to quickly and effectively smack down the silly-yet-destructive memes of the opposition. It happened with the Obama slogan of "We Can't Wait," and it's happened again in this Dog War.
... any traction Obama and his media allies hoped to gain from Seamus [the Romney's dog] over the next six months is now gone. No one is going to forget that Obama ate a dog and my guess is that this cynical attempt to capitalize on what happened 30 years ago just blew up in their face. Any reference to Seamus by the media or White House supporters ... will only remind people of Obama's dog-eating episode. Moreover, Obama probably won’t be seen with his own dog, Bo, after this. The jokes are just too easy.
I'm not so sure we're having the same sort of success with the "War on Women," however. Maybe this will help. (The good thing about bumper stickers is that they're almost always less than 140 characters -- which is the twitter limit on a post, or "tweet.")
Note: There are "rights" and then there are Constitutional rights -- and the Left needs to learn the difference.
