Mannie Sherberg
Anyone who spends much time these days pondering the inconsistencies and illogicalities of the polls is doomed to go nuts. There are two possible explanations: Either the polling techniques are much less valid than the pollsters want us to think, or the polls simply reflect the inconsistencies and illogicalities of the people being polled. I suspect both are true. Modern day polling is a little better than tea-leaf reading, haruspicy, palmistry or any of the dozens of other means devised over the years to divine the future -- but not much.
