If I'd been one of the shlemiels who forked over 40 grand at light night's shindig, and if Keith Koffler's list of "stars" is representative of the folks who were there, I'd ask for my money back. Come on now ... since when do third-raters like Jack Black, James Brolin, and Diane Von Furstenburg qualify as stars? If this list is the best Clooney could come up with, it might tell us something about the political mood in Hollywood. It might tell us that a lot of real stars decided not to ante up the big bucks for a guy who might well be a one-term president. How many people -- even in La La Land -- are stupid enough to shell out $40,000 (or in many cases $80,000) for a candidate who, in a few months, is likely to be unable to repay the favor? To tell you the truth, I was expecting to read a guest list that was all glitz, glitter, and glamour -- not a list of mostly has-beens, wannabes, and never-weres. Maybe that's a good sign.
