International Business Times (UK) reports:

A computer malware has allegedly attacked computer systems in Iran forcing them to play AC/DC's Thunderstruck at full volume in the middle of the night, according to a computer security researcher.

Mikko Hypponen, lead researcher at the Finnish computer security firm F-Secure, reported in his blog that a scientist working at the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) sent him an e-mail about his systems getting hit by a cyber-attack.

"I am writing you to inform you that our nuclear program has once again been compromised and attacked by a new worm with exploits which have shut down our automation network at Natanz and another facility Fordo near Qom," reads the email.

"According to the email our cyber experts sent to our teams, they believe a hacker tool ... was used," it continued....

"There was also some music playing randomly on several of the workstations during the middle of the night with the volume maxed out," the e-mail reads. "I believe it was playing 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC."

Ironic: Those invisible electronic imps that are wreaking such mischief on Iranian computer programs are referred to, generically, as "worms." What a lowly and insulting moniker to bestow upon a "creature" doing some of the world's noblest work! In standard English, to call someone a worm is to suggest that he or she is a puny, abject, insignificant -- and certainly worthless -- character. But the so-called worm now threading its way through the bowels of the cyber-gizmos Iran is using to produce a nuclear weapon is doing work that few human beings (even if they were small enough to get into a computer's innards) would dare attempt -- valorous and heroic work that may well have historic implications. Worm, shmerm! We need a better word.

As a fan of AC/DC, I like Thunderstruck, but prefer songs like "You shook me all night long." That said, if you really wish to torment the workers at the Iranian nuclear facilities, may I suggest the incredibly irritating "It's a small World After all", by Richard and Robert Sherman, and played incessantly during the Disney ride by the same name?
