Give Matt credit? I'm not inclind to do that. After all, helping one blind man across the street doesn't make up for years of snatching handbags from old ladies. Lauer -- who has always impressed me as a nasty piece of work -- has carried water for so many libs over the years that, by now, he must have his own private ocean. As for the Cutter interview, I'll grant that Lauer asked a couple of direct questions, but he then let Cutter do a beautiful job of evading them and making her own points instead. Cutter's very good at what she does -- and in this interview at least she was an overmatch for Lauer, who surely knew what was happening but had no intention of stepping on Cutter's well-rehearsed talking points. The whole miserable exercise was just another lib-on-lib interview -- which amounted to two people making love while pretending to be "adversarial." Lauer excels at only one thing: interviews in which he gets to stick his velvet shiv into some witless conservative's heart. For Cutter, he left his shiv at home. Give Matt credit? For what?
