At a campaign event on July 13 in Roanoke VA Obama said,

 

"If you've got a business, you didn't build that.

Somebody else made that happen."

 

 

 

Just keep talkin,' Barack...

 

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back.  They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.  You didn’t get there on your own.  I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.  (Applause.)

     If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet....

Obama is betting his presidency on one thing -- and one thing only: that there are enough voters out there stupid enough to believe this dreck -- who will therefore give him a majority, or at least a winning plurality, on November 6th. Never in American history has a president announced so clearly, so blatantly, and so shamelessly that he believes the American people are a melange of boobs and rubes, simps and wimps, yaps and saps. That's because, narcissist that he is, he believes the American people are a reflection of himself.

President Obama is tapping into the rich vein of envy pulsing near the skin of many Americans. People love the idea that nothing more than good luck has favored those who are better educated or wealthy; and hope some entity will take the good jobs away from the rich and hand them out to those who haven't had their turn yet. The redistribution of wealth is a basic part of Socialism. The logical result would be that people who have not worked their way up the ladder would lose those businesses (not to mention the harm which could be done by lawyers and doctors who hadn't gone through the system of study and apprenticeship). The reign of those who think all the Boss does is come to work late and spend money would be brief. Those losing their livelihood as a result would not thank Obama. The system the president describes is so general that ALL jobs can be said to owe it a debt: an assembly line worker or custodian is equally indebted to our school system, the taxes which maintain public roads and fire departments, etc.

I know a number of people Obama would call "millionaires". Every one did it the old fashioned way. They earned it by working harder than those around them, and taking risks with their own time, effort and money. The one I know best is my oldest son. As a pre-teen, he had a paper route and a lawn mowing enterprise. As a teen, he worked in a bicycle shop, and then as a mechanic in a gas station. He worked his way through college as a shade tree mechanic (using our garage when the weather was bad). When he struck out on his own, he started with a converted shed, and now has a 12 bay business with 9 full time mechanics. Yet he still works 60-70 hour weeks. Monday through Thursday means 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM at the shop. Friday, he leaves early, around 6:00 PM, to take his wife and son out for dinner and a show or movie. Saturday is a short day at his shop, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Sunday is when he maintains his home, that he and my daughter-in-law built serving as the contractors, and doing much of the work themselves. He has had setbacks, including a fire at his first business building, but rebuilt the business through effort and commitment. His contact with government is mainly to have both legal and compliance experts on retainer to make sure he complies with all the local, state and Federal regulations he must meet in order to retain his business. The free enterprise system is perhaps the most successful application of "meritocracy" ever devised by man. Yet we have an administration, and a fair portion of our citizenry, who wish to destroy it.
