If anyone ever puts together an anthology of "Worst Rhetorical Flubs," Obama's Cairo speech -- which Bret Stephens rightly calls "forgotten" -- has to be included. Has any speech in history ever failed so completely, so spectacularly, so embarrassingly? The reason couldn't be more obvious: the speech announced -- in the clearest and most unambiguous language -- that the new president of the United States was a wimp, a chump, and a pushover. The Muslim world, we are told again and again, respects only strength -- so Obama went to Cairo and displayed only weakness. His loss in the "global popularity contest" could have been predicted the minute he stepped off that podium at al-Azhar 3 1/2 years ago.

Barack Obama is a bullapitter who believes his own bullspit.
