A Florida man is facing a misdemeanor charge after he went to a Democratic Party headquarters and threw a penny at workers there, claiming that the change was "all he has left after being taxed by Obama," cops report.

The protest Friday evening ended with the arrest of Gary Root, a 71-year-old Naples man (and registered Republican). Root ... was charged with trespassing at the Collier County office where he offered his impromptu donation..

.... The campaign police blotter also includes the bust of a man, 63, who allegedly went on an anti-Obama graffiti spree in New York's tony East Hampton, and the defacement ("Muslim Lier") of a large banner at the Des Moines headquarters of the president's reelection effort.

This is what America has come to? You can now be charged with trespassing for walking into a political office and tossing a penny? I'll admit that the guy who spritzed the Obama banner was probably guilty of something -- but I can't figure out what. As far as I can see, his only crime was misspelling "liar." For that, he should be placed not in jail but in front of a chalkboard, and required to write l - i - a- r fifty times. Come to think of it, he shouldn't be punished at all. After all, "lier" has a certain logic to it, and in a sane world that would be the correct spelling for "someone who can't tell the truth." The judge should give this orthographically-challenged shlep a dictionary -- at public expense -- and send him home. And the Obama people should be careful about calling the cops on someone who can't spell; the orthographically challenged are one of America's biggest victim constituencies -- and they vote!
