Why President Obama Was Reelected

 

There is a rational explanation for the President’s reelection which doesn’t invoke a deep or complex meaning.

The only way to explain the outcome is in the simplest and direct prose: the moochers prevailed.

In the early 1930s, the great Cab Calloway ensured his eternal place in the pantheon of jazz greats with his version of "Minnie the Moocher." By 1934, the song was so well known that Groucho Marx referred to it in the Marx Brothers classic, "A Night at the Opera." Groucho upbraids an operatic impressario for paying a singer $1000 a night; "Why," he says, "for 75 cents you can buy a recording of 'Minnie the Moocher.' For a buck-and-a-quarter, you can buy Minnie herself." More than half a century later, the Dims are still busy -- every election day -- buying Minnie herself. The trouble is, nowadays, it costs a heckuva lot more than a buck-and-a-quarter to buy Minnie or any of her Moocher relatives.
