Imagine a truly pro-palestinian American president
presiding over a liberal Federal government,
backed by a left-wing mainstream media.
I'm referring back to this old BtB post not to say "I told you so," but because it's fascinating to me now that any of this seemed logically possible THEN. And too, it shows me that while I could say these things back then, they were still safely removed from reality; I had no serious idea of how painful it would be to live through them.
Too much the pessimist even then, I didn't "imagine" the 2010 midterm election. That has been and continues to be a saving grace, such that the Democrats do not in fact "control the entire federal government." Nevertheless, this post came awfully close. Too close for comfort.
07 October 2008:
The Democrats will control the entire federal government
Boker tov. I woke up this morning with a start. I started thinking what it will mean if Obama is elected and the Democrats win majorities in the Senate and the House....
... I immediately added Dhimmedia to that picture. A leftist media - like the one we have now, that tears Sarah Palin to shreds and actually advocates for Obama without parsing his background - could not be trusted to provide any oversight of such a government. We will not know anything and we will not be allowed to know anything.
.... Just imagine. There would effectively be no voice for the opposition. There would be no government transparency because there will be no voice in goverment or media to demand it....
The national "unity" Obama has promised will play out in an all-liberal media that sings in unison with the all-liberal government. If you think the New York Times ignores conservative views now, just imagine how such arrogance would increase when their side is in total power.
[....]
The Democrats and the media already prefer the poorpalestinians to Israelis. Reporters already flock to the homes of suicide bombers after a terrorist attack. They already ignore the Israeli children who get their legs blown off by "crude, homemade" poorpalestinian kassams. They already whitewash - if not glorify - terrorists, and give prime editorial space to Hamas "officials." They already talk about "Palestine" as if such a country exists and ignore the fact that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. They already invite Ahmadinejad into some of our most revered institutions and allow him massive American television audiences. They're already quick to dismiss his threats to annihilate Israel, and they already demonize the lame and mostly-fictitious "Israel Lobby." Can you imagine the trajectory of what they would do, with no holds barred? With no opposition?
The Democrats and liberal media already prefer anyone who bills themselves an an underdog, regardless of rational argument. They already prefer any black person (simply on the basis of their being black) to any "typical white" bitter clinger. They already prefer illegal immigrants to American citizens. They already defend the "human rights" of terrorists. They already prefer abortion to birth. They already despise and demoralize our military.
Imagine if such a worldview were not only prevalent, but in control.
[....]
Obama has said that "no one has suffered more than the poorpalestinians." He has said that he would "stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift" against them. Even Ralph Nader has said that Obama was "pro-Palestinian when he was in Illinois" and that Obama's "better instincts and... knowledge have been censored" in this campaign. Imagine a truly pro-palestinian American president presiding over a liberal Federal government, backed by a left-wing mainstream media.
Thus we see today's headlines:
Palestinians to UN: Stop 2 big Israeli settlements
Palestinians warn Israel must be held accountable over settlements
Israeli settlement plans will force 1 state for Israelis, Palestinians
Israel could face Palestinian war crimes charges
AND last, but hardly least:
Nota Bene for Posterity: We will not soon forget Hillary Clinton's vile assertion - as Secretary of State for the Obama regime - that "there's more the Israelis need to do."
I can only gather from this that our attempts at reflection, reconciliation and soul-searching have not pleased The Won.
