Mannie Sherberg
When I first read this Democrat doggerel, I figured its author must've been Georgia's inimitable Zell Miller -- a Democrat so conservative that he gave a speech at the 2004 Republican convention, and so smart that he had the good judgment to challenge Chris Matthews to a duel. But -- on second thought -- that's unlikely: in 1949 Miller would've been only seventeen. In any event, this is a very deft ditty. It's a shame that today's Dims would consider it heresy and, if they got their hands on him, burn the author at the stake.
