Peggy Noonan:

 .... The election is over, a new era begins — and it looks just like the old one. A crisis is declared. Confusion, frustration, and a more embittered process follow.

 This is . . . the Obama Way.

Nothing has changed, even after a yearlong campaign... He still doesn't want to forestall jittery, gloom-laden headlines and make an early deal with the other guy. He wants to beat the other guy.

 

She ends by saying "it's going to be a long four years."  One thousand four hundred thirty-six days, to be exact, until the next presidential election.

Rahm Emanuel gave the game away four years ago when he intoned: "Never let a crisis go to waste." It turns out he didn't mean "Use the crisis to solve the problem." He meant -- as we now know -- "Use the crisis to beat up your opposition." That's why he's plainly enjoying the "fiscal-cliff" crisis -- which isn't even a real crisis, just a contrived one: It's a glorious opportunity to pummel Republicans -- and pummeling Republicans is how he gets his kicks. Before he jaunts off to Hawaii for a month of golf and luaus, he's going to make sure every Republican in town has been bloodied. The question is: Will these same Republicans remain unbowed?
