WaPo on Hagel: "Well to the left" of Obama in his first term

The left-leaning Washington Post editorial board sez:

Chuck Hagel is not the right choice for defense secretary

FORMER SENATOR Chuck Hagel, whom President Obama is reportedly considering for defense secretary, is a Republican who would offer a veneer of bipartisanship to the national security team. He would not, however, move it toward the center, which is the usual role of such opposite-party nominees. On the contrary: Mr. Hagel’s stated positions on critical issues, ranging from defense spending to Iran, fall well to the left of those pursued by Mr. Obama during his first term — and place him near the fringe of the Senate that would be asked to confirm him.

 

I can't even imagine anything to the left of Obama's first term! Wouldn't you fall off the chart at the point?

Meanwhile the junior senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin, is said to be "leaning 'yes'" on Hagel's appointment.

Yael -- you say you can't imagine anything to the left of Obama's first term. Sure you can. In Obama's first term, he was palsy-walsy with stealth terrorists from organizations like CAIR -- but he never summoned the courage to put one of them in his Cabinet. Now, with the appointment of Hagel, he's putting a stealth terrorist (just look at the guy's attitudes toward Hamas and Hezbollah) in his Cabinet -- and not in just any old position, but in what's arguably the most important position there is. A wannabe jihadi as SecDef? That's a pretty good working definition of "left."
