You may think that when I'm not blogging, I am eating bon-bons and filing my nails, but it's not true. I'm trying to gain some sort of overview in the face of being inundated 24/6 with so much instantaneous news, information and balderdash.
Lately I am overwhelmed by the insanity of what's going on. Three current events I think epitomize our condition:
(1) The president of the United States is being briefed by professional Jew-haters in preparation for his trip to the Jewish state of Israel.
(2) Even as the federal government is pushing to "control" guns in the hands of ordinary folks, it is gobbling up supplies of ammunition to the extent that the private sector is suffering a massive shortage. The following federal agencies have lately ordered or received shocking numbers of firearms and ammunition:
Homeland Security ~ 1.6 BILLION rounds
"... some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers."
That the Social Security Administration purchased 174,000 rounds of ammo is just as strange. And the list goes on: the Environmental Protection Agency (40 Glock G-19 handguns with night sights and extended magazines), the Department of Agriculture (320,000 rounds), the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Weather Service / National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (46,000 rounds). Okay, so the IRS is getting 60 shotguns, but what does the Department of Education need shotguns for? They're getting over two dozen. 12-gauge shotguns.
Who knew that in addition to almost a million local and state police officers, another 25,000 or so armed agents work for various Departments of the federal government? The EPA alone employs 265 armed officers... for what?
(3) Obama's new director of the CIA, John Brennan, was not sworn in on a Bible as is customary though not required, adding to rumors that he is a convert to Islam. Instead he was sworn in on a preliminary - that is, unratified - version of the Constitution that predates the Bill of Rights.
On August 31, 1787, George Mason declared he would "rather chop off my right hand than put it to the Constitution as it now stands."
"... the White House took pains to emphasize the symbolism of the ceremony. 'There's one piece of this that I wanted to note for you,' spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at their daily briefing. 'Director Brennan was sworn in with his hand on an original draft of the Constitution that had George Washington's personal handwriting and annotations on it, dating from 1787.'”
As most of you know, without the promise of a Bill of Rights to follow, the "anti-federalists" would not have supported ratification of the Constitution. And Gd knows, I cannot mention the anti-federalists without quoting Patrick Henry.
Near his last will, Patrick Henry left a small envelope sealed with wax.... On the back, Patrick Henry left a message that he knew could only be read after his death....
Whether America’s independence “will prove a Blessing or a Curse will depend on the Use our people make of the Blessings which a gracious God hath bestowed on us. If they are wise, they will be great and happy. If they are of a contrary Character, they will be miserable. Righteousness alone can exalt them as a Nation. Reader! whoever thou art, remember this, and in thy Sphere, practice Virtue thyself, and encourage it in others. P. HENRY”
