Daled Amos has covered much of the brouhaha over one Miz Samira Ibrahim nearly being given a "Woman of Courage" award by the U.S. State Department.
No doubt you've heard about it: An anti-American Egyptian antisemite was to be honored by John Kerry and M/Obama but - just in the nick of time - Bill Crystal at the Weekly Standard saved the day by exposing Ibrahim's hideous views of Western civilization in general, and Jews in particular. The State Department then decided to indefinitely postpone Ibrahim's award until the "allegations" against her could be fully (and no doubt, fairly) investigated.
It seems to me that if Crystal had any political sense whatsoever, he would have seized the opportunity for [right-wing] political advantage, waiting until the award was a done deal before exposing the "error" of the [left-wing] State Department. That way, we would have at least had an official photo in our arsenal -- not that it's been all that useful in the past.
"Ew," you say? We're not like the Democrats? We don't fight dirty? Well, that all depends on whether you want to win or not, doesn't it? If you're the one who brings a knife to a knife fight, while the other side brings a gun, guess what? You lose.
Anyway, I was not in the least suprised when this so-called scandal hit. You may remember that we covered last year's "International Women of Courage" awards here at BtB. We even noted the high level of "diversity" in the predominance of awardees from the Muslim-Majority Countries of Pakistan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya and Turkey. Nor did it escape our racist vision that the only "typical white" "Woman of Courage" was one with mulitple ties to then-Secretary Hillary Clinton.
Oh well... another year, another Arabist State Department. Some things never CHANGE. Further case in point: Egyptian Activist Blames US 'Zionist Lobby' for Lost Prize.
