Leo Rosten tells an apt joke, which he titles "An Art Gallery": First viewer: "Is that a painting? It says 'Night Scene.' " Second viewer: "It should say 'Dreck by Moonlight.' " First viewer: "Why do they hang stuff like that?" Second viewer: "Because they couldn't find the artist." I suppose there's an English word for Levine's hodgepodge of fallacies, illogic, sophistry, lies, and hate, but if there is, it eludes me -- so I will call it what it surely is: Dreck. Being a man of gentle disposition, I would never counsel hanging the writer. But I wouldn't kvetch if the State of Israel were to revoke his right of return.

By his own reasoning, Prof. Levine does not belong in the United States. I will give some credence to his opinion as soon as he resigns from the University of Massachusetts, sells his home, and moves to the ancestral lands of his ancestors. Based on his ethnic background, that may well be his "beloved Palestine". I am sure he would be welcomed appropriately. His failure to do so proves him to be a hypocrite whose opinions carry no validity.

Joseph Levine's latest oped argued that Israel has no right to exist and that history should be reversed: “I conclude, then, that the very idea of a Jewish state is undemocratic, a violation of the self-determination rights of its non-Jewish citizens, and therefore morally problematic”. The New York Times' relentless attacks could well play out in ways that indeed attempt to put an end to Israeli sovereignty.
