Latest data (USDA - Aug. 9, 2013) show that the total number of folks receiving SNAP benefits is now 47.6 million. That's nearly 15 pct of the population that ostensibly cannot even feed itself.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. You can get an idea of what's below the surface by exploring the wonderland that is Benefits.gov:
Benefits.gov wants to keep citizens updated on all government benefit and assistance programs. Now, staying connected is even easier with our improved mobile-friendly site.
According to a study by the Pew Research Center, 55 percent of adults with mobile devices use them to access the Internet. In the past year alone, Benefits.gov has seen a more than 200 percent increase in visits from mobile devices. In order to best serve the needs of citizens, we have enhanced our site to improve user experience for visitors using their mobile devices, ranging from smartphones to tablets and e-readers, such as the iPad and Kindle.
Citizens can now access the Benefit Finder at home or on-the-go to find out which benefits they may be eligible to receive. No matter how you choose to access the website, the Benefit Finder remains an anonymous way to search for benefits based on your specific needs. After answering questions in the Benefit Finder on your smartphone or tablet, you can then browse through your benefit results to learn more about the benefits that may be right for you. You can also find more information about benefits that may be available to you by browsing by State, by Category or by by Federal Agency. The website content is available in English or Spanish on any computer or mobile device.
The new look of the mobile-friendly Benefits.gov homepage will continue to highlight news articles and helpful information to get you started with locating and applying for assistance.Citizens will also find a YouTube tutorial to guide them through using the Benefit Finder.
