Associated Press: Palestinian Vigilante Killings on the Rise
A top security official [Abu Koussa] said more Palestinians were killed in internal violence this year than by Israeli troops.... He did not provide figures, but his claim was backed up by the Independent Commission for Human Rights, an independent Palestinian group....According to an Associated Press count, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire stands at 127 in 2005 so far .... AP does not keep a count of Palestinians killed in internal violence.

Palestinians trying to rebuild the Gaza Strip must now deal with the legacy of a culture of martyrdom and militancy that appears better suited to years of violence than to making the territory a model for statehood. Palestinian Planning Minister Ghassan al-Khatib said cutting poverty and unemployment, and creating a conducive atmosphere to reduce militant tendencies among children is the top priority. I have a plethora of objections to the Israeli disengagement/retreat/expulsion from Gaza, but I must say that I find it a relief to see that with no Israeli presence in Gaza, it's much harder for the press to blame Israel for what goes on there.
Is this fleeting moment of public relations relief worth the destruction of Gush Katif? No. Is it worth the suffering that thousands upon thousands of our fellow Jews endured and continue to endure? Absolutely not.
