Ok, just let me tell you that I am really really and endlessly really shocked by the way you speak about Palestinians. You speak and think as if this is all perfect and they must keep suffering. Why must they keep suffering? why must they be punished? Why ? Palestinians are humiliated, most of them live in the most unhuman conditions, their rights are violated every single day by the Israeli-occupation forces. Oh come on, what should they do? Oh I know, sit at home and do not react, Israel also wants to take the right of self-defence from Palestinians. Yes, that's it !!!
Go to Gaza (if you dare) or try to really see what is going on there and maybe in that way you will understand a little better the reason for their anger, for their hate. They do not hate just because.
Dear Mariana,
Did you not know? I cannot go to Gaza. The Gaza strip is Jew-free. It is illegal for Jewish civilians to enter Gaza. It has been that way ever since the state of Israel forcibly removed the 10,000 Israeli Jews who lived, worked and worshipped in what we called Gush Katif (Harvest Belt). Not even the dead Jews could stay; 48 graves were exhumed and the remains removed to relative safety in Jerusalem. Being a Jew, I cannot go to Gaza. Nor can I become a citizen of Jordan or travel to Syria. I don't think this is fair or just, in fact it is humiliating, but not to worry, I won't be blowing myself up because of it.
It's a shame that Palestinians are unhappy, but they have been given more aid per capita than any people anywhere in the history of the world. They have been given land (i.e. Gaza), and they have been offered a state (in 1937, 1947, 1949, 1967, 1978, 2000, 2001 and in the Roadmap of 2003).
The Palestinians have chosen a path of terrorism, intifada and jihad rather than negotiation. When they're not shooting from among women and children, they're sending women and children to blow themselves up. They have elected HAMAS to represent them. They have made their choices, and those choices are not civil, friendly or peaceful.
Being the object of their hate, I understand it plenty.
I have no interest in the feelings of the Palestinians; I am only interested in their actions. After paying close attention to Palestinian "society" for a number of years, I have found nothing to admire and much to oppose.
Since I cannot go to Gaza, maybe you will go... and build a house, or take a child out of the street when Fatah and Hamas are out there killing each other. I'm sure that since you care so much, you can do something to cheer them up. And then they will feel better. And if they feel better, according to you, they will be less likely to kill my family. That would be a good thing.
Good luck and thanks for writing,
Yael
