Great post. But I do have a couple of questions. Just exactly how is it that Israel needs U.S. permission to do anything? And how is it even fathomable that an Israeli prime minister would publicly admit to it? We'd better be very careful about picking the next U.S. president since evidently they'll be running Israel too. "Ehud Olmert, the current Israeli prime minister, said this week that Bush's letter gave the Jewish state permission to expand the West Bank settlements..."

It's NOT fathomable that an Israeli prime minister would seek "permission" - but it's true. That's the kind of crazy world we live in. And btw, I completely agree that we had better be careful choosing the next president, and we'd better get our foot in the White House door with whoever it is right away. On Day One, as they say, and never let them forget us for a second. Turns out Bush has been a disaster, helped of course by the disaster of Olmert. More on that tomorrow. Thanks for your comments.
