Scroll down for news of today's murderous attack in Nachal Oz and Alumim.
I'll be on Philly ZOA's Middle East Report today, with Lori Lowenthal Marcus and Steve Feldman. We're going to talk about this post, especially (I hope) this bit:
U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control - 04/12/2006Consistent with current foreign policy, certain transactions otherwise prohibited pursuant to the Regulations are being authorized by general license to facilitate limited transactions by U.S. persons with the Palestinian Authority.
I just this minute found more at www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac
GUIDELINES ON TRANSACTIONS WITH THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITYScope: The United States government has concluded that it is in the national interest to authorize U.S. persons to engage in all transactions with the Palestinian Authority in light of the appointment of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and a slate of ministers who are not affiliated with the designated terrorist group Hamas.
Accordingly, OFAC has issued a general license (discussed below) authorizing such transactions. More generally, while OFAC sanctions do not prohibit U.S. persons from providing assistance to, or engaging in business dealings with, undesignated private individuals, corporations, or organizations in the West Bank or Gaza, U.S. persons should be aware that dealings with designated terrorist entities such as Hamas or other designated persons remain prohibited.
General Licenses: On June 20, 2007, OFAC issued General License No. 7, available on OFAC’s website, which broadly authorizes U.S. persons to engage in all transactions with the Palestinian Authority as defined therein. General License No. 7 defines Palestinian Authority to mean the Palestinian Authority government of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and President Mahmoud Abbas, including all branches, ministries, offices, and agencies (independent or otherwise) thereof. General License No. 7 authorizes all transactions with the Palestinian Authority, including all transactions previously authorized by General Licenses Nos. 1-4 and 6. No application is necessary to engage in activities authorized by the General License, nor is any notification to OFAC required.
While you're waiting with bated breath for the radio show to begin, take a look at these Remarks by Stuart A. Levey, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (Department of the Treasury) - just last month - March 6, 2008:
.... The Security Council has designated Iran's Bank Sepah for its involvement in Iran's ballistic missile programs. The United States has designated Iranian banks Melli and Mellat for their involvement in Iran's nuclear and missile activities, including their support of UN-sanctioned Iranian proliferation entities. And we designated another Iranian bank, Bank Saderat, for its role in funneling money to Hizballah, HAMAS and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Not only do these banks facilitate illicit transactions, they engage in a wide variety of deceptive financial conduct to cover their tracks.
Hullo-o-o .... This very same American government is directly funding the Palestinian Authority, whose [supposedly transparent and holier-than-thou] Prime Minister Salam Fayyad ADMITTED (four days ago to a Kuwaiti journalist) that he is transferring funds to the Gaza Strip. That means HAMAS.
Argh! Does this not cause you some cognitive dissonance? or maybe ANGER?
Congress currently has hundreds of investigations of the Bush administration underway. Don't you think we should call for one more? This is our tax money, folks. Hundreds of millions of dollars. To HAMAS. While they're in the process of trying to kill Jews in the state of Israel which is supposed to be America's ally in the Middle East.
It's absolutely insane. If you don't call your representatives in Congress over this, what would it take?
GAZA ARAB TERRORISTS JUST KILLED TWO ISRAELI CIVILIANS a couple of hours ago. And wounded several.
(IsraelNN.com) Palestinian Authority terrorists murdered two Israelis and wounded several others Wednesday afternoon in an attack on the fuel depot at the Karni Crossing into Gaza. Initial reports said the attack began with a barrage of mortar shells aimed at the Gaza Belt communities of Nachal Oz and Alumim....Palestinian Authority sources said three terror organizations claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out by a group of three to seven members of the Islamic Jihad al Quds Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees' Salah al-Din Brigades and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen)'s Fatah faction's Mujadeen of the Al Aksa Martyrs' Brigades terrorist gangs.
Do we have any assurance whatsoever from our government that it wasn't our money that financed these murders of Jews in Israel? Don't you think that as taxpayers we deserve at least that?
Are you going to wait until Jerusalem is divided to wake up?
Are you waiting for HAMAS to use your money to lob a rocket at the Kotel before you bother to pick up the phone?
