Blue Dog Democrats say they have been "lied" to by their Democratic leaders during negotiations on the House healthcare bill.
The Hill newspaper reports that talks in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where the bill has been stalled by seven Blue Dogs, have broken down in anger.
Congressman Charlie Melancon (D-Louisiana) is quoted as saying he was "lied to," and that Committee chairman Henry Waxman (D-California) did not engage in "legitimate" negotiations.
According to Melancon, "Mr. Waxman has decided to sever discussions with the Blue Dogs who are trying to make this bill work for America." Melancon estimates that there would be 40 to 45 "no" votes from Blue Dogs if Democratic leaders held a floor vote on the current bill.
