Eh, what's another security breach?

 

 KANEOHE, Hawaii – President Barack Obama's motorcade family is spending part of the last day of 2009 watching the futuristic adventure film "Avatar."

The Obamas visited a movie theater near their rented vacation home in Hawaii on Thursday morning for a screening of the 3-D hit. Officials say the first family and their friends had the theater to themselves...

In other news, half a dozen American CIA personnel were blown to bits by a suicide bomber in the gym on an American military base in Afghanistan. According to a New York Times reporter, "That the bomber managed to breach a secure base assigned to potentially sensitive operations also made the attack particularly audacious."  Kinda like the mass murder at Fort Hood, that way. You remember Fort Hood, don't you? It was only last month.

I'm sure we have nothing to worry about, though, since everything's turned out so well in the end, yes?  Except for the murdered CIA guys, of course.  But the glass is still half full; the folks on that Delta flight survived -- literally in one piece. You do remember the Christmas bomber, don't you?  C'mon, it was just a week ago. Funny it was on Christmas Day, sorta like the Yom Kippur War starting on Yom Kippur, only different.

You know what I want you to do to make this New Year thing really special?  No, I don't want you to go to the movies and see Avatar (I heard it was terrible).   I want you to make like an elephant and not forget what happened last week, or last month, or for that matter, a single detail of this basically horrid year.  Why?  Well, because somebody somewhere is "counting on the short memory of the American voter."  I just can't remember right now who it is or why.

So be well and be safe.  I don't really feel up to going into the whole mazal-tov-on-Yashka's- Bris routine this year, but you can look it up if you like.

I don't know which is worse...

... the lefties commenting at the Washington Post in blatant celebration of Rush Limbaugh's misfortune, or the liberals at the Huffington Post, who have been caught in that particular act so many times already, that now they are falling all over themselves to shine their haloes over his hospital bed and show the world that liberals really are the most kind, gentle and compassionate people on earth.  Either way, it's disgusting to read.

There are two newsbits in the WaPo article, however, that might be of interest. One is that "Obama spent Wednesday... at a luau."  Okay, so that's not very interesting. How 'bout this?  Nancy Pelosi is also on vacation... in Hawaii.

Makes you want to look up the line of succession, doesn't it? 

President ~ Off the mainland, in Hawaii.

Vice President ~ Off the mainland, in the Virgin Islands.

Speaker of the House?  Off the mainland, in Hawaii.

Do they know something we don't know?  Or are they just anxious to protect the country from the possibility that No. 4, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate could end up in the Oval Office?

You don't know who that is, do you?  Better brush up on your civics, kids; a healthy democracy requires an educated citizenry.

The Burton Daily Mail is a daily paid for newspaper covering the East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire areas. Currently it circulates to 15,665 - (ABC Jan - Jun 2006)

The only paid-for title in Burton-on-Trent, the Mail has been established for more than a century, and offers all the latest news from the town and its surrounding area. Published from Monday to Saturday, the Burton Mail changed from being an evening newspaper, on sale around lunchtime, to being a morning publication in 2006, now in the shops at around breakfast time each day.

 

Now that the stage is set, so to speak, check out this war memorial in Burton. upon Trent.  I don't even know which war it memorializes.

 

Sadly, it no longer matters which war, because something even greater is at stake. Via David Horowitz's NewsRealBlog:

A Royal British Legion boss says vandals have “dishonoured those who have given their lives for our country” by defacing Burtonʼs war memorial.

Dennis Fletcher, chairman of East Staffordshire Racial Equality Council, said he suspected someone from the far right was responsible.

“Graffiti of any type is terrible but when it includes racist material it has to be considered utterly unacceptable.”

I was taken aback when I read the very last sentence in this news report:

The Mail has manipulated the mainpicture [sic] to remove some of the content of the message.

Well, at least they admitted it.

What was so offensive and inflammatory that the Burton Mail thought it best to “manipulate” their photo? A UK blogger has the answer.

You see how delicate, how fragile, civilization is?  And I don't mean just the threat painted on a wall; that's nothing compared to the Burton Mail.  We could handle the grafitti, but for media malpractice. 

I am surprised by own ignorance; I never knew that a thousand asses typing out their poison in a thousand offices across the world could threaten my freedom, not to this extent, not to where I fear that all of western civilization, hard won and built over millennia, could be destroyed in a mere few decades... of moral and intellectual rot.  But here we are. It is what it is. And it's brought to you almost every day - and in some cases, every day - "in the shops at around breakfast time." It's amazing we've not yet choked on it. 

So how many of these whores posing as "journalists" could there possibly be?  And how do you split them off from the hordes of Islamic Nazi terrorists and wannabe-terrorists on whose behalf they labor?  If I knew, I would do something about it.

The thing is, the Burton Mail has a circulation of 15,000-plus.  And I would bet my house that the blogger who exposed them... doesn't.

Larijani told Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that Teheran is proud of its "moral" support for Hamas. He also denied that Iran is undermining Egypt's efforts to reconcile between Hamas and Fatah. The Iranian official called his meeting with Mubarak "constructive," and noted that Iran and Egypt shared a "positive vision on bilateral relations," according to Iranian Press TV.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday reiterated his support for Hamas, during a visit by the Palestinian group's Damascus-based leader Khaled Mashaal, according to Iran's official news agency. "The government and the people of Iran will always stand by the Palestinian resistance and the Palestinian people," Ahmadinejad said during the meeting with Mashaal.

Plus, the utter silence in response to Rick's question, "What Happened to 'Defensible Borders'?" is also worrisome.

Methinks we're going to have to focus. And sooner rather than later.

P.S. - This is a helluva time to have both the president and vice president off the mainland.  Who's holding down the fort, anyway?

"How Right was Cheney?"

 

Jennifer Rubin contends:

All year former Vice President Dick Cheney has been bird-dogging the president on his anti-terrorism policies. From the get-go, Cheney has charged Obama with foolishly abandoning the policies that worked to keep America safe and reverting to a pre- 9/11 mentality. He made that argument once again today:

As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think if he has a low-key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of Sept. 11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.

He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al-Qaeda-trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, ‘war on terror,’ we won’t be at war. But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe. Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency — social transformation — the restructuring of American society. President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.

Liberals have sneered that Cheney was exaggerating or misreading the Obami’s approach to terrorism. But at each turn ... the Obama team has in effect proved Cheney’s point....

KAILUA, Hawaii — President Barack Obama abruptly ended his golf outing and sped in his motorcade

to his compound Monday after he learned a friend's child was injured while playing on the beach.

Members of the first family were fine, a White House official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of a reluctance to discuss personal matters involving the president.

The injury to a child belonging to Eric and Cheryl Whitaker, friends of the Obamas, was described as relatively minor and that the child did not require stitches.

The president was playing golf with friends from Chicago who joined him on his holiday vacation.

An ambulance raced to the Obamas' rented compound and then left with lights flashing.

After a brief delay, Obama returned to the course.

 

And just in case you're too stupid to arrive at your own conclusions, Newsweek "blogger" (and eejot del mundo) Daniel Stone explains:

... The injury was relatively benign compared to the potential alternatives for such a rushed response of the president, the motorcade, and the ambulance that follows the president. But the incident was the third in a string of national and personal scares after [1] the alleged terror plot on board a Detroit-bound aircraft on Christmas Day and [2] a similar-seeming incident... the following day....

Having just cut short a round of golf in such dramatic fashion, the president might be wondering when his working vacation might actually begin.
