I'm pretty grumpy about the election results in my state. Dick Morris says Republicans John Raese and Spike Maynard lost in West Virginia because ours is the most corrupt state in the country, given the iron grip Democrats and Democrat-controlled unions have on our state.
Former Pennsylvania coal miner Arthur Trunzo, 92, straightens the pants cuff of national AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Rich Trumka before the leader takes the podium at a statehouse rally (Charleston Daily Mail, August 2009).
I don't doubt that Morris is right as far as that goes, but I don't think it's that simple.
While the chorus of left-wing shills was busy fear-mongering over undisclosed donors from shady "outside" organizations, castigating John Raese [whose Greer Industries employs nearly 1,000] for having successfully earned wealth in America, and regurgitating Spike Maynard's infamous 2006 lunch-in-Monaco with Don Blankenship of Massey Energy [employs about 8,000] -- good ol' Nicky Joe Rahall was busy handing out the ham, bacon and pork from his Gubmint Stash (translation for conservatives: hard-earned taxpayer dollars) ... safely under the radar of any media, mainstream or otherwise.
Now check out this list, all from Nicky Joe's own Congressional website [also paid for with y/our taxes] -- and bear in mind that it's in addition to the $2 million+ spent by the Rahall campaign in this election cycle [86% from out of state and only 40% from individuals].
[vs. $634,512 spent by challenger Elliott "Spike" Maynard -- 83% from in state and 93% from individuals.]

If my calculator hasn't blown a fuse, that's about
$102 MILLION
in just the three and half months leading up to the election... in one District.
I don't think Dick Morris's John L. Lewis analogy was incorrect, but we can hardly ignore the "liberal" extent of such a massive redistribution of wealth (even though it pales in comparison to what WE're spending on Obama's vacation in India).

P.S. Note the (not irrelevant) local headline this morning:
Public hearings set on AEP rate hikes in W.Va.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Customers of American Electric Power's West Virginia subsidiaries will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on proposed rate increases.
Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power are seeking a 17 percent rate increase for residential customers and hikes of 12 percent to 15 percent for commercial and industrial customers.
