The very fact that I chuckled dismissively when I read this shows how impossible it seems and how inside out everything has gotten. A suggestion posted at AmericansSpeakingOut.com:
ALL pay raises, benefit changes and any additional rules concerning the Senate, Congress, VP, Pres, etc. have to be voted on by the people and receive a 2/3 majority vote to pass.
Public servants? A quaint phrase but hardly the reality.
My own pet peeve is the $1.6 million spent annually ($6.4 million over a four-year term) on the 22-24 staffers working for Michelle Obama -- but if I really had my druthers, for starters I would abolish NARFE and their lobbyists, abolish the Department of Education (turn those tasks back to the states), have every (civilian) federal agency reduce their workforce by ten percent, and defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (as proposed by the co-chairmen of Obama's fiscal commission).
And you? What would you cut, if you could?
