I so heart Congressman Allen West.
Greetings to our Constituents, fellow Floridians, and to all Americans from across this great land. It is time for another weekly update from your Congressional Representative.
This week I would like to take a fairly different approach and talk about the events that bookend the past week, before sharing the week's events.
We ended our last update with my walking onto the stage of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to deliver the keynote speech, "Our Sacred Oath, The Dawn of a New America." Judging from the response, I am deeply humbled at the reception of those words by many of you. And to the liberal press, well, you all did just as we expected, blah blah blah.
:) You'll want to read it all (all the while wishing that either you lived in his District, or someone of equivalent stature could be elected in yours), but I cannot resist posting one more excerpt. This exchange took place at the 6th Annual Dr. Carter G. Woodson Festival in celebration of Black History Month... in Oakland Park:
The Vice-Chair of the Broward Democrat Party came up and introduced herself and took a picture with me.....boy howdy is she in trouble!!!! She and I had a nice chat, yes, we really did, and she complimented me on my tenacity, principle, and the fact that I had joined the Congressional Black Caucus. Her comment was that, "At least I was not confused about who I was." I just laughed within myself and thought....no, I am not confused, I am one proud American Man.
Weasel Zippers reveals a Shocker: Not All Congressional Black Caucus Dems Thrilled With Having Allen West as a member...
"In Obama's Washington" (Washington Post) Jan. 5, 2011:
Florida Republican Rep. Allen West Wednesday officially joined the Congressional Black Caucus, becoming the first Republican to join the group since Rep. Gary Franks (R-Conn.) was defeated in 1996.
West was inducted along with the caucus' other 42 members at a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol Visitors Center Wednesday morning, hours before the 112th Congress convenes for the first time. Members of the CBC were seated onstage in the Capitol Auditorium for the ceremony; West sat in the back row with the CBC's five other freshmen, sandwiched between Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) and Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), who was wearing a bright red sequined hat....
