Ugh, you're not kidding. I'm close to giving up any hope on this country's future, myself. The only thing I can hope for is that this is somehow a repeat of the horrific 70's "malaise," and that we'll turn the corner again. (But then again, I have yet to see a Republican candidate that stands even the remotest chance of rolling back the regressive regime that's taken over our government, so I'm not *that* hopeful.)

I have to agree with Brian: this is a depressing poll result. But there's something puzzling about it. The 53%-who-blame-Bush number makes the electorate look stupid, to put it mildly. Yet just last November this same electorate looked brilliant. Are American voters that fickle, that volatile, that capricious? Beats me. And -- to add to the puzzle -- if 53% of the voters out there blame Bush for our financial woes, then they should have a pretty high opinion of the "blameless" Obama. But just about every recent poll shows Obama's standing going down. Numbers, we're told, don't lie -- but they sure as hell can confuse.
