Unfortunately, we're getting no real news out of Iran these days, but the little that we are getting is tantalizing. If the snippets we're hearing are true, then it appears there's a sizable rift inside the leadership, exemplified by the reported clashes between Khamenei and Ahmadinejad. If that's the case, we can expect the hangings to increase until the conflicts are resolved or until the regime implodes. Desperate people do desperate things, and these guys may be getting desperate. If that's the case, we can expect things to get uglier in Iran -- if that's possible.

Re: the Arab truck-driver. Today is Naqba Day -- the day when Palestinian refugees who aren't really refugees commemorate a catastrophe that never happened. Since the whole idea of Naqba Day is lunatic, we can expect a whole succession of looney news reports the rest of the day. Haaretz has already reported that hundreds of "refugees" have been rushing the Israeli border from both Lebanon and Syria. The IDF has shot and killed eight of them; several dozen others managed to breach the border and are presumably now loose in Israel. This is mayhem for the sake of mayhem -- as mindless as the idea behind Naqba Day: that Israel caused a "catastrophe" that produced hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees in 1948. Let's focus on the real catastrophe: the death of the Israeli killed by the truck-driver.
