FLOTUS off to South Africa & Botswana next week

Michelle Obama is dragging her mother, her daughters, and their cousins to Africa next week. Oh, and Black Entertainment Television. She'll be seeing the sites and being filmed as part of an upcoming TV special. But, in order to avoid the kind of criticism she received last year for her visit to Spain, Michelle is cloaking her excursion with the mission of "youth outreach." What does that even mean? Millions of Americans have cancelled their vacation plans this summer thanks to her husband's policies, but if you think that's going to stop her from touring the world on your dime you're mistaken.

 

FLOTUS sez (at BET):

“I’m doing this because we know that Africa is a fundamental part of our interconnected world and when it comes to meeting the challenges of our time—whether it’s climate change or extremism, poverty or disease, the world is looking to African nations as vital partners,” she said, adding that the world will look to the continent’s young people “to help lead the way.”

So here we have besides the description of the trip by the First Lady in her own words, poltical analysists, a South African University professor, and the spokeswomen for the U.S. South Afican embassy identifying the the First Lady’s trip as, “a people diplomacy-type trip” and on the other side of the planet, Fox’s racist Ingrham criticizing the trip as a tax payer’s paid vacation for the First Lady and the first family to have some fun in the African sun. As anyone can plainly see, Ingraham presents a vituperative attack which is long on rhetoric and very short on evidence or substance. Such is the Obama’s way of life in America when dealing with the racist right-wing Republicans and Tea Baggers.
