I retired as a systems administrator, after spending decades working with mainframe systems. Yet I am not ashamed to admit that it was my 9 year old Grandson who taught me how to use the I-POD my daughter gave me as a gift. At least I was able to learn from him, as his experience in being with me at Boy Scout adult leader training had familiarized him with EDGE. Educate/Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Empower.

Tom -- I envy you; at least you are EDGEable. I, on the other hand, have always lacked EDGEability. The last gadget whose use I more or less mastered was the lead pencil; since then, I have proven incorrigibly klutzy -- so klutzy, in fact, that I believe klutziness is a genetic condition which will only become curable when medical science discovers a mutation for the klutziness gene. Until then, I shall try to avoid as many of today's gizmos, doohickeys, and thingamajigs as I can. They all make me edgy.

From Amy Poehler's commencement speech this year at Harvard to graduating seniors: "You know the world in a way that my generation never did. Because of that, I realize I don't have much advice to give to you. In many ways, I learned from you. I don't have many answers, just questions. Specifically, when I use Facetime on my iPad and I'm talking to someone and I take a picture, sometimes the screen freezes. How do I fix that?"
