Mannie Sherberg
"Moral fiber" is an old-fashioned phrase we don't hear much anymore -- but moral fiber is what next year's election will be all about. The question we'll see answered is simple: "Has the culture of dependency so sapped the character of a critical mass of the American people -- so weakened their moral fiber -- that, to ensure receiving the handouts on which they depend, they are willing to accept the permanent decline of their country?" Or, put differently: "Has selfishness so thoroughly displaced patriotism that a majority of Americans will sacrifice their country to gratify their own appetites?" The cynic inside me says "yes." The idealist inside me prays "no." In a little over a year, we'll get the official answer.
