The most disheartening thing I heard today -- and I heard it a number of times from media people who should know better -- was the idea that, since bin Laden's death, we have al Qaeda on the run, and are therefore "winning" the war on terror. One would think Hezbollah and Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, to say nothing of the jihadi groups proliferating throughout the Balkans, in Chechnya, and in southeast Asia, have all dropped off the face of the earth. The idea seems to be current that terrorism = al Qaeda -- and if al Qaeda is "on the run," we no longer have much to worry about. That's big-time denial, and, like all denial, it will come back to haunt us.
