Comfortably ensconced, as I am, in front of my computer, I feel almost guilty looking at those photos. It's awfully easy to forget that it takes real guts to let yourself be photographed holding such banners. As you point out, Yael, some of these folks may already be dead. The details of history are always changing, but one central fact never changes: The struggle for human decency and freedom is always fought mainly by little people whose names and stories we will never know -- and to whom we are forever indebted.

Great information of record are always modifying, but one middle reality never changes. The battle for individuals decency and independence is always conducted mainly by little individuals whose labels and testimonies.
