Ben Who? The Ribbonless Republicans

I thought the green ribbons were for Global Warming alarmism of some sort, but I was wrong.

.... Obama's Democrats shed appropriate tears for the children of Sandy Hook. But where were the tears for "gun violence" abroad as well as at home? for the children left fatherless by a terror attack Obama wanted to hide?

I blame the Republicans, as well. Their Democratic colleagues arrives at the State of the Union address sporting green ribbons to show their solidarity with victims of gun violence. Where were the black ribbons on the chests of those Republican legislators? Where was the solidarity with the fallen in Benghazi? Did they think about the dead when they slapped each other on the back and exchanged grateful handshakes with their rivals?

NB: We learn from Wikipedia that ours is not the first civil war to involve green ribbons.

In 17th Century England during and after the English Civil War the wearing of a sea-green ribbon signified affiliation with the ideals of the Levellers and later in the century with radical Whiggism.

The Levellers, of course, were exactly what their name implies -- a Leftist group long before the word "Left" meant what it means today. Barack "Share-the-wealth" Obama is their ideological heir (without the Protestantism). Oliver Cromwell put the original Levellers out of business; it's a damned shame we don't have a Cromwell on the scene today. While we're on the subject of color symbolism, it's worth mentioning that green is the color cherished by the wackiest of environmentalists, and it's also the color of the jihad -- a color cherished by Hamas, the PLO, Hezbollah, and all the rest of their kin. I wonder how many -- if any -- of those Dims who sported green ribbons last night know what they were affiliating themselves with. Probably not. That's one reason they're known as "Dims."
