Jay Carney is a MILLIONAIRE?!

The Washington Free Beacon, July 2012:

.... White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, Press Secretary Jay Carney, Cabinet Secretary Chrisopher Lu, and senior advisers David Plouffe and Valerie Jarrett...  Each of them earns the maximum White House salary of $172,200 per year, records show.

Jarrett’s net worth is $3.3 million - $13 million.

Lu is worth $2.3 million - $5.2 million.

Plouffe is worth as much as $3.6 million,

Carney as much as $3.2 million, and

 Pfeiffer as much as $2.1 million.

The Washington Times reports that the White House employs 468 people at a yearly cost of $37.8 million (2012):

... total salaries have declined from $39.1 million in 2009, and ... the total number of employees has dropped from 487 three years ago.

In 2008, during President George W. Bush’s final year in office, the White House payroll was $33.1 million, 14 percent less than it is today.

All this is a far cry from the early days of the republic. Thomas Jefferson employed only two people - a secretary and a messenger - both of whom he paid out of his own pocket.
