Brilliant piece by Henninger

Daniel Henninger in the Wall Street Journal:

Progressive Government Fails

What is so wonderful about this is that Henninger exhibits a rare combination of good thinking and good writing. I'll just share you with some of my favorite bits and pieces.

"A reader remarked ... that Barack Obama is running out of human shields."  

That would be one very clever reader, which of course is possible, but I wonder if it isn't Henninger himself who is tiptoeing around calling the president a terrorist. I don't know about you but when I hear "human shields," I think Hamas, Hezbollah, that sort of thing.

It's actually a quite a good metaphor, given that Bad Guys generally "lead from behind" and the Good Guys, from the front.

 

About Obamacare: "This is the glitch that failed."

.... Mr. Obama is, without embarrassment, a man of the left. American progressives saw their win with Mr. Obama as the overthrowing of the postwar Democratic liberalism that culminated with the Clintons, a liberalism willing most of the time to coexist with markets, property and private enterprise. Progressives hated these accommodations. They were purer than that. Together, they created ObamaCare.

 

On packaging progressivism: "Teddy Roosevelt invokes cheerier memories than Leon Trotsky." 

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is "the bland face of progressive coercion."

I'll let you go read it all in context, but do pay attention when he mentions Obama's lifetime spent "failing up."  This is great stuff. Kudos to Mr. Henninger.

Until Obama, all of our leftwing presidents were milquetoast lefties -- timidly tiptoeing around their leftism. Obama's the real thing -- an unabashed, unashamed socialist whose every act, since his first day in office, has been to confiscate and redistribute America's private wealth. With each passing day, I think, more and more Americans are coming to see that the Affordable Health Care act isn't really about health care -- it's about wealth transfer. Under the guise of making us all healthier, he is making us all poorer. The man is a true-bue leveller -- more so than Eugene Debs or Norman Thomas ever was.
