Sultan Knish (h/t yeshiva son):
Our technocracy is detached from competence. It's not the technocracy of engineers, but of "thinkers" who read Malcolm Gladwell and Thomas Friedman and watch TED talks and savor the flavor of competence, without ever imbibing its substance.
These are the people who love Freakonomics, who enjoy all sorts of mental puzzles, who like to see an idea turned on its head, but who couldn't fix a toaster.
The ObamaCare website is the natural spawn of that technocracy who love the idea of using modernity to make things faster and easier, but have no idea what anything costs or how it works....
In 2009, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was right when he shouted “You lie!” when President Obama was touting the benefits of his Affordable Care Act. Apparently, the administration knew millions would lose their plans ... Sure enough, millions of Americans are losing their healthcare insurance plans and even worse, are being cast aside from full time employment to part time. Doctors are opting out of participating in “Obamacare.”
But what we fail to realize is the long-term strategy of the progressive socialists has always been the single payer system.
Obamacare includes mandates that makes it difficult for private sector insurance company compliance which results in Americans being dropped from their lower cost plans.... In order to be solvent, it requires more young, healthy Americans to sign up in order to offset the healthcare being provided for lower income and sicker Americans.
In order to ensure there is a steady revenue stream, Americans are mandated, in other words, forced to purchase insurance or be taxed. That decision came from a flawed Supreme Court decision that has now granted Congress an incredible taxing authority to, in essence, legislate behavior forcing Americans to purchase a private sector commodity. The commerce clause is quite clear; the federal government regulates commerce, trade, with other nations, between the states, and amongst the tribal nations. It is a far overreach for the federal government to mandate commerce with the individual American citizen. Therefore, Americans are trapped.
.... This week Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, will testify before the House Energy and Commerce committee. But forget about the Senate ever holding a hearing. That same day, President Obama will spend more taxpayer dollars flying to Massachusetts to seek blame for Obamacare on Romneycare.I wish President Obama would realize he doesn’t have to campaign anymore, but then again, one should do what one does best. I predict at some point in the future, Obamacare will be ruled too onerous and chaotic to implement and if the progressive socialists get control of the House and Senate for Obama’s final two years, the first thing you’ll see in January 2015 is legislation on single payer healthcare.
What I find really stunning about all this is that it is ILLEGAL for an insurance company to offer -or for me (or The Husband) to purchase- a health insurance policy that doesn't include coverage for "mental health services," maternity and newborn care, or that would not provide free birth control pills. These are some of what the Dot-Gov Obamatons call our "essential benefits, rights and protections," but bottom line? We don't need them and we don't want them.
So paying our "fair share" now means we must pay for Sandra Fluke's every neurosis, every desire, every "lifestyle" choice.
Like the man said, "Americans are trapped."
And that's not fair.
